I started on my journey of daily meditation about three months ago. The changes to my outlook on life and how I deal with my anxiety and feelings and other people have been subtle but they are there.
Meditation can be anything. It’s not just sitting in a dark room, cross-legged, humming in monotone. Meditation can be a bike ride through the country, a run through the park, painting, etc.
I began my meditation journey using an app called Headspace. Headspace uses guided meditation with a focus on what you are trying to achieve with meditation. From coping with stress, or managing anxiety to dealing with pregnancy; Headspace has a meditative plan for you.
Do you have trouble focusing? That’s the beauty of meditation. It helps you be mindful of what’s going on here and now. It teaches you to be present in the moment, to take notice of all those little things we take for granted. For example, are you ever aware of your movements? Like getting up from a chair or sitting back down again. Have you ever been mindful of the mechanics of your body during a breath? When you scratch an itch are you present in the feeling of your fingers contacting the skin? Meditation helps you be mindful and learn to appreciate those things.
When’s the last time you’ve really looked at the sky in the morning? That’s something I’ve noticed myself doing since I’ve been meditating. Lately on my drive to with in the morning it’s almost like ive rediscovered the sky and clouds. Why? Because my mind is less cluttered with feelings, worries, emotions and more focused on what’s going on right in front of me.
I strongly encourage you to make meditation a part of your life. It’s been a game changer for me.
